The Kaipalaoa Wave
Hilo Bay was once a bustling port for whale hunters. The landing area at the mouth of the Wailuku River carries the name Kaipalaoa, literally translated as “Whale Sea.” The fresh waters from Mauna Kea and the ocean waters converge here. This art depicts the meeting of these two waters.
A KAIPALAOA COLLECTION
We at Palikū Surf are honored for every surf session at Kaipalaoa!
Rarely breaking, it only happens with the right winter surf angles that bend and wrap into Hilo One.
We feel the presence of our surf ancestors and the aliʻi who surfed here before us.
Surfing with our aliʻi is like no other feeling.
This wave offers a balance of lefts and rights. We call it perfect!
Kaipalaoa will always be our favorite!
With a salute to this legendary surf break, we offer this summer Kaipaloa Collection.
The iconic image of the meeting of two waves is offered on hats and tees. Also check out
the new tee designs to keep you looking fresh!
