This Pullover Aloha Shirt features our Ululoa print on Storm fabric with White ink.
These leaves come from our homestead at Keaukaha, Hilo. The ulu tree has supported our families for three generations with nourishment for body and spirit.Without embellishments, this study of leaves is actually a challenge to style. I continue to hand-cut each design and with this specific art, I pushed myself to not lift the blade off the page until the entire leaf was completed. Not too tough but somewhat complex in approach, I enjoyed the process! The simple lines of the ulu continues to empower!
Inspired by the ivy-league shirts of the early 1900s, the fabric designs are pure Hawai‘i, and the look is pleasingly fresh. The Buttondown is an open front, tapered shirt with a full length placket, while The Pullover features a half placket and is designed slightly wider to allow over-the-head dressing with ease. Coconut buttons are featured on the stand-up, button-down collar and on the front placket. Tuck it in or leave it out over the trousers for a more casual look. Either way, it's the perfect touch of crisp aloha!
