Back in 1987, life was quite simple.  There was no big meaning for why things were done.  In that simple nature, because the breadfruit was so big, it was called ʻulunui.  Nalani's sister's name is ʻUlunuiokamāmalu; we often give reference to her as ʻUlunui, or Big ʻUlu. Their root clumps were often dug up and rolled down the pali. The kī roots were then boiled and prepared as ʻŌkolehao.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"ltr\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003eThe layout of kī reminds me of the pali on the side of these valleys. They were visible from a distance and etched in my memory.
