This Pullover Aloha Shirt features our Pilikai Keauhou print on Artichoke fabric with White and Cappuccino ink.
In 1983, I had drawn a wood rose but never completed the design. It was filed away with other forgotten drawings. Recently I became enamored of this vine and remembered this old drawing. Pulling it out and dusting it off, I realized how much the pilikai was a favorite of mine. It was a popular motif in the 40's, used on textiles, glass, and paper. It reminds me of an idyllic Hawai’i!
Driving through Keauhou Mauka the last time, Nalani and I came across an entire garage, covered in the blossoms. It was beautiful to see the mass of vines and its flowers in that morning light.
Inspired by the ivy-league shirts of the early 1900s, the fabric designs are pure Hawai‘i, and the look is pleasingly fresh. The Buttondown is an open front, tapered shirt with a full length placket, while The Pullover features a half placket and is designed slightly wider to allow over-the-head dressing with ease. Coconut buttons are featured on the stand-up, button-down collar and on the front placket. Tuck it in or leave it out over the trousers for a more casual look. Either way, it's the perfect touch of crisp aloha!
