Ulu Pareu Pullover Aloha Shirt - Royal

This Buttonup Aloha Shirt features our Ulu Pareu print on Royal fabric with Black ink.

The ulu tree is one of the great symbols of Polynesia.  The tree is often thought of as a member of the family for it represents food, transportation and clothing.  The fruit was prepared for eating in a variety of ways including pounding it into poi.  Today, a favorite method is to sautè slices in butter and garlic!  Kahuna K alaiwa'a would sometimes designate certain ulu trees for the next canoe to be built.  The inner bark was often selected for making kapa, the bark cloth used for hula costuming and ceremony.  This pareu design represents two of our food sources: the ulu and the kalo.

Inspired by the ivy-league shirts of the early 1900s, the fabric designs are pure Hawai‘i, and the look is pleasingly fresh. The Buttondown is an open front, tapered shirt with a full length placket, while The Pullover features a half placket and is designed slightly wider to allow over-the-head dressing with ease. Coconut buttons are featured on the stand-up, button-down collar and on the front placket. Tuck it in or leave it out over the trousers for a more casual look. Either way, it's the perfect touch of crisp aloha!
