Hīlea is an ʻahupuaʻa on the north side of Kaʻalāiki. As one of the land divisions in Kāʻū, we look to the verdant uplands of Hīlea because of the many puʻu. Deep soil and incredible views of the coast make this one of the more extraordinary places on our island. We call our new zip pouch Hīlea as a small acknowledgement of this beautiful place.
Stuff your iPhone, car keys, and all your chargers into this pouch! Featuring our Ululoa print, this day-to-day carry all is perfect for beach, movies, or the flight across the Pacific Ocean. Made of nylon, the Hīlea zip pouch will last a long time!
Ululoa: These leaves come from our homestead at Keaukaha, Hilo. The ulu tree has supported our families for three generations with nourishment for body and spirit.
Without embellishments, this study of leaves is actually a challenge to style. I
continue to hand-cut each design and with this specific art, I pushed myself to
not lift the blade off the page until the entire leaf was completed. Not too tough
but somewhat complex in approach, I enjoyed the process!
The simple lines of the ulu continues to empower!
