Kaʻaipū Aloha Shorts Green Na Kuhikuhi

Size Guide

These Kaʻaipū Shorts feature our Na Kuhikuhi design in Green and Ivy.

Inspired by graffiti and its trend in the urbanscapes, I thought the lyrics to our favorites songs could be interesting to fill the aloha shirt canvas. Printing songs also promotes the text and educates simultaneously.

The words resonate because of the familiarity and the popularity of Aunty Edith’s song of limu. Although the view is somewhat fragmented, it is easily recognized and gives a call out, encouraging the song to be sung.

Na Kuhikuhi has been chosen as the name of the design simply to give notice to the lyric’s authorship. “By kuhikuhi” is just a small part of Aunty Edith Kanaka'ole’s full name: Kekuhikuhipu'uoneonaali'iokohala.

Ola ka limu!

Literal Translation:  The Eating Together

In previous centuries, the flat plain of the valley floor were all planted with kalo.  An abundance of water and the perfect light lent itself to good agriculture.  Mānoa Elementary School is at the piko of the great valley.

Kaʻaipū Street has a bunch of favorite homes, built in the old style with porches and lanais.  I lived nearby and always marveled at the architecture.
