This Pullover Aloha Shirt features our Lauloa print on Wasabi fabric with Overcast ink.
While cutting the laua'e for this design, the surf in Hilo Bay was epic. The waves started breaking at Paliku and appeared to break across the entire bay. In Hawaiian tradition, I chose the name Lauloa to commemorate the occasion. A wave that reaches from one side all the way to the other side is called lauloa. I've also chosen to elaborate on the very ruffled edges of the leaf because it reminded me of the maire that grew in abundance in Tahiti!
Inspired by the ivy-league shirts of the early 1900s, the fabric designs are pure Hawai‘i, and the look is pleasingly fresh. The Buttondown is an open front, tapered shirt with a full length placket, while The Pullover features a half placket and is designed slightly wider to allow over-the-head dressing with ease. Coconut buttons are featured on the stand-up, button-down collar and on the front placket. Tuck it in or leave it out over the trousers for a more casual look. Either way, it's the perfect touch of crisp aloha!
