Desert Green Liko Ka Liko I Ka Ua Pullover Aloha Shirt

This Buttondown Aloha Shirt features our Liko Ka Liko I Ka Ua design on Desert Green fabric with Stone ink.

Pua Kanahele offered this proverb as we began the Edith Kanakaʻole Foundation in the early 90s after the passing of our father, Luka Kanakaʻole.  The mission of the non-profit foundation is to educate and share the traditions that have been passed down from the generations before us to perpetuate them for future generations.  This proverb exemplifies our goals as teaching our children will give them confidence and leadership.

The composition of this design combines both the original hand-cut art by Sig Zane and the graphic design layout by his son, Kūhaʻo.  The two-generational design team offers a peak into tradition as well as a contemporary view, embedded with cultural value, insight and heritage.

Inspired by the ivy-league shirts of the early 1900s, the fabric designs are pure Hawai‘i, and the look is pleasingly fresh. The Buttondown is an open front, tapered shirt with a full length placket, while The Pullover features a half placket and is designed slightly wider to allow over-the-head dressing with ease. Coconut buttons are featured on the stand-up, button-down collar and on the front placket. Tuck it in or leave it out over the trousers for a more casual look. Either way, it's the perfect touch of crisp aloha!
