This Sig on Smith shirt features our Lauakāne print on Wasabi fabric with Black ink.
The 'awa is kinolau of Kane, hence the name. Significant is the term "lau" which suggests many, multiples, numerous. The word often means abundant, and wealth.
The original design was done in the early 1990s and as we revisit it at this time, I sat with our graphic designer at the time Daniel Hoskins to share my thoughts during the fabric layout process.
As he moved the mouse and I pointed and spoke, this composition became our collaboration to include my personal expriences. The rows of leaves appear almost naturally in the garden. It is this personal insight that we have attempted to share with the viewer. -Sig
