King Kamehameha I planted sweet potatoes on the hillside at Makiki. There’s a story
of a rat biting into one, causing it to roll downhill and sprout. Today, the area is still
called “ʻuala kaʻa” or rolling sweet potato.
The ʻuala is a valuable food source, especially because of it’s long shelf life. This means that the ʻuala can be taken on canoe voyages. When at sea, food staples are an important consideration. The value of the ʻuala cannot be underestimated!

We are more than happy to honor a refund for purchases made online at sigzanedesigns.com or from our Flagship Downtown Hilo store if an item is returned to us within 30 days of the original purchase. The item needs to be returned with the original receipt in an unused, sellable condition and with the product tags still attached.

The shipping estimates listed at the time of the order are based on when the parcel leaves our premises, not when the order is placed. Please contact your chosen carrier with your tracking information to inquire about the estimated date of arrival and location of your package. Orders are shipped out Monday-Friday. Orders that come in on Friday after 10am HST will not be processed until the following Monday, even if the request is for overnight shipping. If you live on Hawaiʻi island and would like to pick up your order at our Downtown Hilo Flagship store, please select the "Local Pickup" option. Please allow 24 hours for us to get your order ready.
