Pāʻū o Palai
In the story of Pele and Hiʻiaka, the first recorded hula takes place at Hāʻena, Keaʻau. As the sisters are relaxing at the beach, Pele falls asleep and travels to Hāʻena on Kauaʻi to be with Lohiʻau. For three days and three nights Pele continues to sleep.... Upon her awakening, she asks her sisters to dance for her. It is HiʻiakaikapolioPele that obliges. Her friend Hōpoe taught her the hula, Ke Haʻa Lā Puna I Ka Makani (Puna Dances in the Wind). Soon after, Pele asks her youngest sister to fetch her lover Lohiʻau on Kauaʻi, Pele gives her some tools for protection as she knows the journey will be dangerous. The Pāʻū O Palai, a skirt of ferns, is one of these tools. Made of palaʻā ferns, Hiʻiaka used this tool to defend herself against the many enemies of the Pele clan.
This design of the palaʻā, along with the hand-written chant, takes us to Hāʻena, at Keaʻau, and we relive the first hula! Hula leʻa wale i kai o Nanahuki ē! Dancing happily in the sea of Nanahuki!
Inspired by the ivy-league shirts of the early 1900s, the fabric designs are pure Hawai‘i, and the look is pleasingly fresh. The Button Up is an open front, tapered shirt with a full length placket. Coconut buttons are featured on the stand-up, button-down collar and on the front placket. Tuck it in or leave it out over the trousers for a more casual look. Either way, it's the perfect touch of crisp aloha!

SHIPPING & STORE PICKUP We offer domestic and international shipping options for online orders through USPS, FedEx, and DHL International.
