ʻAlaonaona
A character of life here on an island are the particular flavors and scents. One of my favorites is the aroma of limu when we are near the shore. Limu līpoa has a distinct flavor and because it washes up on the sand, drying out in the sun, the smell is more perceptible.
Aunty Edith Kanakaʻole penned the song “Uluwehi O Ke Kai”, inspired by the fragrant limu on the drive up the coast from Kāneʻohe to Lāʻie. There along the eastern shores of Oʻahu we are treated to the conspicuous scent of līpoa.
The name of this design, ʻAla Onaona figuratively translates to Alluring Fragrance. There on the sands of Koʻolauloa are the remarkable limu līpoa!
Inspired by the ivy-league shirts of the early 1900s, the fabric designs are pure Hawai‘i, and the look is pleasingly fresh. The Pullover features a half placket and is designed slightly wider to allow over-the-head dressing with ease. Coconut buttons are featured on the stand-up, button-down collar and on the front placket. Tuck it in or leave it out over the trousers for a more casual look. Either way, it's the perfect touch of crisp aloha!
