Heʻikelau

ʻUlu continues to be a favorite subject.  The tree is a magnet, an attraction because of its beauty, the delicious fruit, and the iconic leaves.

The breadfruit is the first plant that a graphic designer begins his journey with us.  It is the prerequisite design just as in kui kapa .  Once they complete their first fabric layout with the breadfruit, they are then able to work with other art.

Close inspection of its leaf, fruit, and branches, underscores familiarity.  Knowing the nuances of the plant gives the designer a solid foundation for the work ahead.

Heʻikelau can be translated as “A Knowledge Blossoming”.  Figuratively, we translate it as “A Knowledge Proliferates”.

Inspired by the ivy-league shirts of the early 1900s, the fabric designs are pure Hawai‘i, and the look is pleasingly fresh. The Button Up is an open front, tapered shirt with a full length placket. Coconut buttons are featured on the stand-up, button-down collar and on the front placket. Tuck it in or leave it out over the trousers for a more casual look. Either way, it's the perfect touch of crisp aloha!
