Heliconia
When we first opened our shop in 1985, our dearest friend Kauʻi would bring in flowers grown in her backyard. Each week would be an arrangement of blossoms; often times it would be the Heliconia Othotricha.
The heliconia arrangements inspired this design! While hand-cutting this design, I thought often of Kauʻi and all that she did for us. We honor Kauʻi with this art!
Originally from South America, this ornamental is found growing in the shaded forests. The large blossoms were a favorite in arrangements as they lasted almost a week. The bold graphic art made the perfect pareu design!
Uluau is a wind that occurs around Waiākea, Hilo, Hawaiʻi Island. It is said that most of the Uluau winds originate on the leeward sides. As for our Hilo district, we can look at it in a literal sense: The Stirring Winds.
This full-length spaghetti strapped dress features our large block pareu designs. There is a side zipper closure and adjustable straps. Made in our 55% linen, 45% cotton fabric, perfect for Hilo’s subtle stirring winds!
