This button up aloha shirt features our Honuaiākea print on Lagoon material with Peacock and Cloud ink.
Honuaiākea
he travels of Pele and her ʻohana from Kahiki to Hawaiʻi have been documented in chants. Many of these archaic mele have been choreographed into hula. Motions within the dance depict the various elemental forms present during her migration, illustrate place, the announcement of familial status, and the presence of the gods.
The chants mention the great waʻa Honuaiākea, carrying the ʻohana to their new home at Halemaʻumaʻu, guided by Pele’s eldest brother Kamohoaliʻi.
The ʻohe kāpala motifs used in this fabric layout interpret this traditional story. As we continue to chant and dance this mele, we acknowledge the evolution of who we are and the experiences we have gained through the years. Ola!
Inspired by the ivy-league shirts of the early 1900s, the fabric designs are pure Hawai‘i, and the look is pleasingly fresh. The Button Up is an open front, tapered shirt with a full length placket. Coconut buttons are featured on the stand-up, button-down collar and on the front placket. Tuck it in or leave it out over the trousers for a more casual look. Either way, it's the perfect touch of crisp aloha!
