A very significant lei is made from the keys of the hala fruit.  Often culturally presented at graduations and at retirement parties, the lei hala is one of the more difficult to make.  Variations of the lei are prized as works of art.  "Hua Melemele" is the yellow ripened fruit of this useful tree.
