Ka Pua Ebesu

Before college classes in Hilo, we would rise early to gather the anthuriums under the hapuʻu. There in the heights of Kaūmana, the dark reds would flourish.  They were the icons.  The perfect flowers associated with Hilo town.

We would deliver the anthuriums to the Ebesugawa sisters on Keawe Street.  They were the friendliest people who helped shaped my life on this island.  Their fruit and flower stand always boxed up the most beautiful blossoms for our off-island jaunts.

We honor the flower shop Ebesu’s with this anthurium print.  Literally, the name Ka Pua Ebesu translates to The Ebesu Flower because watching them pack the blossoms with the most gentle hands was always so beautiful.

Inspired by the ivy-league shirts of the early 1900s, the fabric designs are pure Hawai‘i, and the look is pleasingly fresh. The Button Up is an open front, tapered shirt with a full length placket. Coconut buttons are featured on the stand-up, button-down collar and on the front placket. Tuck it in or leave it out over the trousers for a more casual look. Either way, it's the perfect touch of crisp aloha!
