Kolo I Ka Pō
Liko are new leaf buds. Some begin red and eventually turn green. ʻŌhiʻa trees offer colors ranging from red, orange, purple, grey, and green. Liko, poetically, can be interpreted as a child, one that is showered with love. Just as in nature, the rains fall onto the ʻōhiʻa and promotes the new budding shoots.
Walking along the edge of the forest, we encounter liko on the smallest ʻōhiʻa trees. This art is that view, looking from the top, studying its natural balance. We have also incorporated ʻohe kāpala, depicting a moon phase. Illustrating a monthly cycle and the parallels between liko and mahina, this offers a deep composition.
Kolo-i-ka-pō can be interpreted as “Following the dream…” Pō is the darkness of night and in that state, we wander. In that frame of mind, we are led by dream and fantasy. We navigate between knowledge and the unknown.
As the thirteenth day of the moon phase, Hua is just before the full moon phases. Shaped like an egg, this is a good time to plant fruiting trees. In business, this is great day to start a company or collaborate!
Honoring this moon phase, we have named this dress Hua. The silhouette is A-shaped, tea length, stand-up collar, and easy button-up front. Comfort for everyday wear!
