Famous are the rains of Hilo!  Approaching rains are announced with stirring winds, rustling leaves, and a cooling draft…  Ahhh, life in Hilo is filled with wondrous experiences!

The lehua blossoms attract the rains, drinking in heaven’s waters, filling our aquifers. Swollen are the streams, rushing to the sea.  The cycle continues as the moisture is then lifted, becoming the clouds that will return to land, offering the blessing rains.

This print is dedicated to Uncle Johnny Lum Ho.  Original art was created especially for his hālau in the late 1980s for their Merrie Monarch performance.

Inspired by the ivy-league shirts of the early 1900s, the fabric designs are pure Hawai‘i, and the look is pleasingly fresh. The Button Up is an open front, tapered shirt with a full length placket. Coconut buttons are featured on the stand-up, button-down collar and on the front placket. Tuck it in or leave it out over the trousers for a more casual look. Either way, it's the perfect touch of crisp aloha!
