This pullover aloha shirt features our ʻAi Kamehaʻi print on Haze material with Chalkboard and Iron ink.
ʻAi Kamehaʻi
Not many plants grow “by the will of the gods,” without seed or slip. ʻUlu is spoken of as “ai kamehaʻi” meaning that it is a food that simply reproduces itself by sprouting. Hehu, or the sprout, is cut off the main parent root and transplanted.
Puna, Hawaiʻi was famous for its breadfruit. In this locality, the fruit was plentiful and may be eaten for eight months of the year, three more months than other places!
The ʻulu is one of the forms of Haumea. It was named Ka-mehaʻi-kana in the creation chant, meaning “a multitude of descendants.”
Inspired by the ivy-league shirts of the early 1900s, the fabric designs are pure Hawai‘i, and the look is pleasingly fresh. The Pullover features a half placket and is designed slightly wider to allow over-the-head dressing with ease. Coconut buttons are featured on the stand-up, button-down collar and on the front placket. Tuck it in or leave it out over the trousers for a more casual look. Either way, it's the perfect touch of crisp aloha!
