This Holopali Aloha Shirt features our Ka Uluwehi O Ke Kai print on Summer Pear material with Yarrow ink.
Ka Uluwehi O Ke Kai
The love of limu and its many characteristics is an important part of life in Hawaiʻi. The smell of līpoa seaweed on the beach is a feature especially on windward shores.
Ka Uluwehi O Ke Kai, translates to The Ocean’s Delicacies. This favorite song speaks of the various seaweeds and where and how we find them. Penned by Aunty Edith Kanakaʻole, it is a favorite hula especially for the Hālau O Kekuhi.
The elements in the fabric layout include a fish net design, originally a block stamp by Uncle Luka Kanakaʻole. The līpoa and ocean current mimic the incoming/outgoing waves as they appear on the shoreline.
Holopali Aloha Shirt
The wind Holopali is a companion at Kaʻaʻawa.
It carries both moisture and salt, giving us mauka and makai.
Driving along the windward side of Oʻahu, we become intimate with the Koʻolau Mountains. Between Kualoa and Punaluʻu, the road runs along the coast and at times, at the base of the mountains. It is this close proximity that we
enjoy the elements of both land and sea.
The shirt’s fabrication is 92% Polyester 8% Spandex. A straight bottom with slits on both sides gives added flexibility. Just like the cooling winds, this
lightweight fabrication makes it a favorite style!
