This button up aloha shirt features our Lau Piʻilani print on White material with Cappuccino ink.
Lau Piʻilani
The pilikai (woodrose) was a popular art motif in pre-statehood Hawaiʻi. Mundorff prints, Art’s Hawaiʻi etched glassware and Ming’s jewelry were a part of fashionable island life. Introduced as an “ornamental”, the vine is invasive and often takes over, smothering its host plants. The dried blossoms make nice arrangements.
Lau Piʻilani, loosely translates as “Climbing Leaf.” The vines are distinct because of the unique leaf pattern, climbing toward the heavens.
Inspired by the ivy-league shirts of the early 1900s, the fabric designs are pure Hawai‘i, and the look is pleasingly fresh. The Button Up is an open front, tapered shirt with a full length placket. Coconut buttons are featured on the stand-up, button-down collar and on the front placket. Tuck it in or leave it out over the trousers for a more casual look. Either way, it's the perfect touch of crisp aloha!
