Lauakāne
Formal ritual and ceremony have an ʻawa protocol. Drinking ʻawa is the commitment. Farmers would drink ʻawa to relax their muscles after a long day in the fields, allowing the much needed rest. The chewing of the root relieves anxiety and reduces inflammation. There are many other benefits that are being discovered today.
'Awa is kinolau of Kāne. The term "lau" suggests many, multiples, numerous. The word can mean abundant, and wealth. Here we play with the figurative meaning “many leaves of ʻawa” as it indicates a healthy forest and hence, a thriving community.
Inspired by the ivy-league shirts of the early 1900s, the fabric designs are pure Hawai‘i, and the look is pleasingly fresh. The Button Up is an open front, tapered shirt with a full length placket. Coconut buttons are featured on the stand-up, button-down collar and on the front placket. Tuck it in or leave it out over the trousers for a more casual look. Either way, it's the perfect touch of crisp aloha!
