Manamana Manauea
Gathering manauea is always a treat. Knowing its flavor and how it can spice any dish makes harvesting the seaweed a joy! Adding manauea to poke or a salad always makes it memorable.
As a child, I recall gathering manauea in Kane'ohe Bay. One my favorite places is Tavarua, Fiji, as it grows in huge “clouds.” Moloka'i has plenty…
Looking into the Kumulipo, the creation chant of Hawai'i, the mention of manauea appears very early. This tells us that it’s been around for a long time.
The name given to this fabric layout is a play on the nature of its growth. The many branches (mana) moving about in the currents is a wonderful sight to see. Its abundance is mana-full.
ʻAHUNA ANORAK JACKET
The anorak originated north of us in the Arctic lands. Because of the extreme cold, a cover-up was made from animal skins designed to protect their bodies. More than a century has gone by and this jacket style lives on.
Our ʻAhuna Anorak is made for tropical climes with 100% nylon material. Comfortable in chilly Waimea Canyon and enjoyable in cool Holualoa, the hoodie provides security! The elastic cuffs and ties to cinch the waist add to your stylings. 3M reflective ink enhances the tactical nature of this water resistant windbreaker.
ʻAhuna is the term for a ti-leaf rain cape, coat, or garment. We give our anorak this name as it reminds us of the fisherwoman who accompanied Aunty Edith as she fished the shorelines fronting Keaukaha homesteads.
