Ponoholo
Migrations by canoe look up to the star constellations to locate their destination. Rigging their waʻa is an important part of the journey. Movement in great numbers provides protection.
Ponoholo, literally translates to “Righteous Travel.” Figuratively, we take artistic license and interpret it as “The Savvy Traveler.” This is our contemporary view of travel between islands and continents. A little of the traditional, illustrated with the modern.
Uluhoku represents the galaxy. Kai a Lupe is an interpretation of the movement of ocean animals in large groups during seasonal transitions. Kamohoaliʻi is Pele's eldest brother and the steersman for the family. He is represented as the kaula, the braided rope, the cohesiveness in family and in practice.
