Puʻumanawaleʻa
As a child in Kāneʻohe, we hiked to the top of Puʻu ʻAliʻi to proclaim King of the Mountain. The 360 degree views of Kāneʻohe Bay gave us a sense of power. We could see from Kānehoalani to Mōkapu. It was exhilarating!
The love of pu'u began back then. Standing on the top of these hills - one can feel the cooling winds. The pu'u stand out and are the special characteristics of the landscape. The pu'u are like beauty spots - they are the highlights on a face.
Pu’u Manawaleʻa was located in the Kalapana-Kamoamoa area. Puʻu Manawaleʻa is translated as Benevolent Hill. Families placed the piko of their newborns in the crevices of the puʻu with a wish that the child will be benevolent. The puʻu has since been covered by lava flows.
ʻAhuna Anorak Jacket - 100% cotton oxford woven
The anorak originated north of us in the Artic lands. Because of the extreme cold,a cover-up was made from animal skins designed to protect their bodies. More than a century has gone by and this jacket style lives on.
Our ʻAhuna Anorak is made for tropical climes with 100% ripstop cotton. Comfortable in chilly Waimea Canyon and enjoyable in cool Holualoa, the hoodie provides security! The elastic cuffs and ties to cinch the waist add to your stylings.
ʻAhuna is the term for a ti-leaf rain cape, coat, or garment. We give our anorak this name as it reminds us of the fisherwoman who accompanied Aunty Edith as she fished the shorelines fronting Keaukaha homesteads.
