Uku ʻĀkoʻakoʻa
The Kumulipo documents the creation of Hawaiʻi. Beginning in the dark, life is born in stages. “Hānau ka uku koʻakoʻa, hānau kana, he ʻākoʻakoʻa, puka…” Line fifteen describes the birth of the coral, one of the first to be born in Hawaiʻi. The ʻākoʻakoʻa is the foundation to the islands.
At Koʻolau Poko the coral flats are favorite grounds for heʻe. It is there that my father taught us to look for the octopus hiding in the coral rubble. This art, coral fragments, reminds me of the grounds where my father took us.
ʻAhuna Anorak Jacket - 100% cotton oxford woven
The anorak originated north of us in the Artic lands. Because of the extreme cold,a cover-up was made from animal skins designed to protect their bodies. More than a century has gone by and this jacket style lives on.
Our ʻAhuna Anorak is made for tropical climes with 100% ripstop cotton. Comfortable in chilly Waimea Canyon and enjoyable in cool Holualoa, the hoodie provides security! The elastic cuffs and ties to cinch the waist add to your stylings.
ʻAhuna is the term for a ti-leaf rain cape, coat, or garment. We give our anorak this name as it reminds us of the fisherwoman who accompanied Aunty Edith as she fished the shorelines fronting Keaukaha homesteads.
