Ua komo mai ʻo Nāpua i ka ʻohana Ka ʻUmeke Kāʻeo ma ka makahiki 2017 ma ke ʻano he haumāna Papa 8. Ke hoʻokō nei ʻo ia i kona makahiki hope ma ke ʻano he haumāna Papa 12 loaʻa pū he 29 ʻai kula nui mai ke Kula nui o Hawaiʻi ma Hilo a me Ke Kula Kaiāulu ʻo Koʻolau iā ia. Nāpuakaumakani Kalima-Martin has been a haumāna Kaiapuni from Papa Mālaaʻo starting her immersion journey at Ke Kula Kaiapuni o Waiau, then Ke Kula Kaiapuni o Ānuenue and then joined the Ka ʻUmeke Kāʻeo ʻohana in 2017 as a haumāna Papa 8. She is currently completing her final year as a haumāna Papa 12 earning 29 college credits from UH Hilo and Windward Community College. Upon graduation from Ka ʻUmeke Kāʻeo she will be receiving her high school diploma as well as an Academic Certificate in Hawaiian Studies with a Focus in ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi from Windward Community College. She will be continuing her educational journey here in Hawaiʻi finishing out her AA in Hawaiian Studies at Hawaiʻi Community College or Windward Community College and transferring to UH Hilo or Mānoa to complete her B.A. for a double major in Hawaiian Studies and Psychology. She is currently interested in pursuing a future career in teaching with a focus on ʻōlelo Hawaiʻi and haʻi ʻōlelo as well as counseling. She wants to continue her degree in pursuing a Masters in Psychology and an eventual Doctorate. Nāpua is passionate and excels in ʻōlelo Hawaiʻi and has excellent skills in haʻi ʻōlelo. She is often called upon to speak on behalf of her kula as an ʻelele haumāna and alakaʻi.

 

SAMUEL KAMAKAU IV

He haumāna ʻōlelo Hawaiʻi ʻo Samuel Kamakau IV ma ke Kula o Ka ʻUmeke Kāʻeo PCS mai ka Papa Mālaaʻo. Ke hoʻokō nei ʻo ia i kona makahiki hope ma ke ʻano he haumāna Papa 12 loaʻa pū he 31 ʻai kula nui mai ke Kula nui o Hawaiʻi ma Hilo a me Ke Kula Kaiāulu ʻo Koʻolau iā ia. E puka kula ana ʻo ia mai Ka ʻUmeke Kāʻeo me ka palapala puka a me ka Palapala hoʻokō kula nui ma ka ʻŌnaehana Ahupuaʻa ma ka ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi a me ka Palapala hoʻokō kula nui no ka ʻŌnaehana Kai mai Ke Kula Kaiāulu ʻo Koʻolau. E hoʻomau ana kona kula ʻia ma Hawaiʻi nei a kō ka palapala AA mai Ke Kula Kaiāulu ʻo Hilo aiʻole hoʻomau ʻana ʻo ia ma Ke Kula Kaiāulu ʻo Koʻolau a neʻe aku i Ke Kula Nui o Hawaiʻi ma Mānoa e hoʻokō i ʻelua kekele B.A. kekahi ma ke Kālai‘ike Hawaiʻi a me ʻOihana. He ʻiʻini kona no ka paʻi kiʻi ʻana a he ʻiʻini pū kona e hoʻopili i kona ʻike hawaiʻi a me ka ʻike ʻoihana a hoʻomaka i kona ʻoihana ponoʻī. Nanea ʻo Samuel i ka launa ʻana me kona mau hoaaloha a me ka hoʻonui ʻike no ka moʻomeheu Hawaiʻi. Wahi a Samuel, “ E kuʻu mau pōkiʻi, e Kūlia i ka nuʻu i ka paepae kapu o Līloa.”


Samuel Kamakau IV is a haumāna ʻōlelo Hawaiʻi of Ka ʻUmeke Kāʻeo PCS since Papa Mālaaʻo. He is currently completing his final year as a haumāna Papa 12 earning 31 college credits from UH Hilo and Windward Community College. Upon graduation from Ka ʻUmeke Kāʻeo he will be receiving his high school diploma as well as an Academic Certificate in Ahupuaʻa with a Focus in ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi and Ocean Systems from Windward Community College. He will be continuing his educational journey here in Hawaiʻi finishing out his AA at Hawaii Community College or Windward Community College and transferring to UH Mānoa to complete his B.A. for a double major in Hawaiian Studies and Business. He has shared that he is interested in pursuing his passion in photography as well and combining his interests of ʻike Hawaiʻi and business to build a possible career in these fields. Samuel enjoys spending his free time hanging out with friends and increasing his knowledge of Hawaiian culture. His message to his hoapapa and pōkiʻi is, “Kūlia i ka nuʻu i ka paepae kapu o Līloa.”
