Hoʻohenohiʻileihaliʻaaloha

The Ahaʻāina Piha Makahiki, or the first birthday celebration, is an important milestone in the life of a child.  Family and friends are invited to rejoice the new child surviving the first year of life’s challenges.

Hoʻohenohiʻileihaliʻaaloha is our celebratory first birthday gift for the newborn child of Paul and Ashley Kema.  The ʻohe kāpala medium was chosen to illustrate the child’s name, Hiʻileihaliʻaaloha.  The lei of pua niu was selected as the child’s father always made papale niu, coconut frond hats.

The center of the lei represents the piko, the umbilical cord.  This symbolizes both genealogy and unity within the ʻohana.

Inspired by the ivy-league shirts of the early 1900s, the fabric designs are pure Hawai‘i, and the look is pleasingly fresh. The Pullover features a half placket and is designed slightly wider to allow over-the-head dressing with ease. Coconut buttons are featured on the stand-up, button-down collar and on the front placket. Tuck it in or leave it out over the trousers for a more casual look. Either way, it's the perfect touch of crisp aloha!
