Kamakalaukoa
The graduating class of Ke Ana Laʻahana 2008 offered their own drawing for their class design. Representing the koa leaves, the wake behind a waʻa in the water, and the Hoaka moon, the images symbolize these keiki and their experiences in life. Our design layout by Kūhaʻo offers a look at the koa leaves in a large graphic presentation. Alongside the images by the keiki, we offer the true koa leaves and the petioles (crescent shape phyllodes) of the koa. The name is a play on the plant design and the layout. The students are the young warriors, standing at the edge, ready to graduate, with their eyes wide open, looking at everything.
Inspired by the ivy-league shirts of the early 1900s, the fabric designs are pure Hawai‘i, and the look is pleasingly fresh. The Pullover features a half placket and is designed slightly wider to allow over-the-head dressing with ease. Coconut buttons are featured on the stand-up, button-down collar and on the front placket. Tuck it in or leave it out over the trousers for a more casual look. Either way, it's the perfect touch of crisp aloha!
