This pullover Aloha shirt features our ʻAi ʻŌhelo print on Chinese Red material with black and white ink.
ʻAi ʻŌhelo
ʻAi ʻŌhelo is named for “ʻaihaʻa” the dance style of Hālau o Kekuhi. I liken being a hula dancer to the characteristics of the ʻŌhelo, a native shrub sacred to Pele and commonly found in the Kilauea area. Like the ʻŌhelo who can withstand high elevation, extreme elements and all seasons, as a dancer I must be ready for the many levels of responsibility.
I must carry my weight physically and mentally. I will be challenged by multiple dancing spaces, various levels of dance choreography and a range of kuleana from knowing dye plants and fiber materials to mastering chanting and hoʻopaʻa skills. It is through hālau and my hula practice that I have the capacity to function like this.
- Kaua Kanakaʻole-Ioane
Inspired by the ivy-league shirts of the early 1900s, the fabric designs are pure Hawai‘i, and the look is pleasingly fresh. The Pullover features a half placket and is designed slightly wider to allow over-the-head dressing with ease. Coconut buttons are featured on the stand-up, button-down collar and on the front placket. Tuck it in or leave it out over the trousers for a more casual look. Either way, it's the perfect touch of crisp aloha!
