This Button Up Aloha Shirt features our Pili Lāʻele print on Pepper material with white and Slate ink.
Pili Lāʻele
ʻUlana lau hala continues to be an esteemed cultural practice in Hawaiʻi. Pāpale and moena, treasured articles of the craft, all begin with the selection of leaves. Our eyes are open, always seeking that special tree with leaves that will become the next woven object! Names were given to the leaves, beginning with the dried leaves at the bottom and ascending to those not yet unfolded at the top of the swirl. Lāʻele were the older dark green leaves above the dried brown leaves. Pili lāʻele were the green leaves just above the lāʻele. Translated, Pili-Lāʻele, “close to lāʻele” were woven into ordinary mats. Koʻo and ʻiʻo koʻo were the light green leaves selected for fine mats.
Button Up Aloha Shirt
Inspired by the ivy-league shirts of the early 1900s, the fabric designs are pure Hawai‘i, and the look is pleasingly fresh. The Button Up is an open front, tapered shirt with a full length placket. Coconut buttons are featured on the stand-up, button-down collar and on the front placket. Tuck it in or leave it out over the trousers for a more casual look. Either way, it's the perfect touch of crisp aloha!
